Stashin’ Records

The days of record shopping do seem to be continuously pushed into the background with the dawn of the digital download age but in every town and city there are always the vendors of specialist vinyl that feed the real music fans, DJs and producers alike with sounds of yesteryear and limited edition presses from tomorrow. A great example of where this can be witnessed firsthand is in Manhattan especially in and around the East Village.

While the demand may not be what it was pre 9-11, record shops have become smaller and more tailored to their customers needs. Prices have lowered a bit too over the last 10 years for collectible records. But no matter how good you are at using eBay or buying up collections from DJs/collectors who are getting rid of their vinyl nothing beats hanging around your local record shop for an afternoon with a few quid in the pocket and some colourful characters to talk and exchange music with.

Our man from Big City, Jared Boxx knows his music and hipped us to this blog from David at Stashin Records.

This blog is the beginning towards a future book/guide to all New York record shops and soon to come interviews & stories of past and present stores. If you do find time to check this out, leave some comments, I know it will mean a lot to Dave, that people are interested.

Thanks for the post on my project! I have been to 75 record stores in NYC and have spoken with those stores owners/staffers and customers for the project. In time, they will all make it to the blog so I hope you’ll return as it continues to evolve. Your comments are very welcome. It’s great hearing from other vinyl enthusiasts. Thanks again for checking it out- Dave from stashinrecords.com

I was in NYC last November with my good wife and while she panned out in the hotel pool I spent a sunday afternoon in Big City with Jared close at hand advising me on what I needed to hear and sorting out my wants list wherever he could. It was a cold crisp November day and not many folks came into the store that day but it’s a fond memory. Anyone else got any memorable record shop moments?
